VPM’s K. G. Joshi College of Arts and N.G. Bedekar College of Commerce becomes

the first ‘Community College’ of University of Mumbai

University of Mumbai has launched a novel scheme of Community College in collaboration with HCCB (Hindustan Coca Cola Beverage) from the academic year 2012-13.

Community College is an alternative system of education which aims to empower the disadvantaged and under-privileged through appropriate skill development leading to gainful employment in collaboration with the local industry and community. This is the first scheme of its type in entire India.

Out of approximately more than 650 colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai forty colleges were shortlisted and out of these forty finally four colleges were selected as the Community Colleges of the University of Mumbai.

On 2nd October 2012 honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rajan Velukar made an announcement of the first four Community Colleges of the University of Mumbai and VPM’s K. G. Joshi College of Arts and N.G. Bedekar College of Commerce was the first to be announced in the list.

Under this scheme, the first batch of forty students will be admitted in VPM’s Joshi-Bedekar Community College under the aegis of University of Mumbai. Eighty percent fees of the admitted students will be paid by HCCB.
