Activities / Reports (year 2011-12):

The regular activities of the Department began on 1st August 2012 with an English Literature Students’ Meeting along with the Teachers of the Department; wherein the teachers interacted with them to know their interest and loopholes as students and introduced the various upcoming student-oriented activities of the Department.

English Poetry Recitation Competition was held on 4th August 2012 for the English Department students.

An Inaugural Function of English Literary Association (ELA) was organised on 6th August 2012 in Katyayan. Prin. Dr. (Mrs.) Shakuntala A. Singh presided over the function. Dr. Mala Pandurang, Reader and Head, Department of English, Dr. B.M.N. College of Home Science, Mumbai, and a Fulbright scholar, was the Chief Guest. She delivered a talk on ‘Afro-American Writers’. On this occasion, T.Y.B.A. students of last year, who secured First Class, were felicitated. The Wallpaper of the Department named ‘Fragrance’ was released. Literature students contributed self-composed poetry, articles, paintings and creative writings in the preparation of the Wallpaper.

Teacher’s Day was celebrated in the Department on 5th September 2012.
‘Author Study’ Power Point Presentations by F.Y., S.Y. and T.Y.B.A. Literature students were arranged on 12th September 2012 in Katyayan. The event was graced by Prin. Dr. (Mrs.) Shakuntala A. Singh. Expert comments were given by Prof. Ramesh Nhavkar.

Text-Based Reading Sessions to improve listening comprehension and reading ability of the students were conducted in the month of December 2012.  Group Discussions were also held by the students.

Library Orientation for T.Y.B.A. students was arranged in the month of January 2012. (Mrs.) Manisha Patil, Asst. Librarian, introduced Online Public Access Catalogue to the students.

A Parents’ Meeting of T.Y.B.A. students was conducted on 6th January 2012.
A Text-based Power Point Presentation by T.Y.B.A. students was held on 26th January 2012.

          Dr. Bijoy Samal, Head of the English Department, Kirti College, Mumbai, delivered a Guest Lecture for T.Y.B.A. students on 25th February 2012.
Prof. Santosh Rathod, Head and Asst. Director of English Literature, Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), University of Mumbai, delivered a Guest Lecture for S.Y.B.A. students on Mahesh Dattani’s play ‘Tara’ on 1st March 2012.
Film screening of ‘CATCH-22’ based on Joseph Heller’s novel by the same name was arranged by American Library, at U.S. Consulate General, American Centre for our students.

Prof. Shashikant Mhalunkar, Head of the Post Graduate Department of English at BNN College, Bhiwandi, delivered a Guest Lecture on T.Y.B.A. Paper VI on 5th March 2012.

Prof. (Ms.) Madhavi Arekar completed Orientation Course with ‘A’ Grade.
Dr. (Mrs.) Suja Roy Abraham from the Department of English presented a paper titled ‘Singing Women: Gender and Ecology’ at the First Global Conference held at Mansfield College, Oxford University, United Kingdom. She also presented a paper in IVth International Conference in Organization for Studies in Literature held in Chennai.

Our T.Y.B.A. student (Ms.) Rukhsar Sheikh bagged third prize in an Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition held at Dnyansadhana College, Thane, in October 2012. (Ms.) Manasi Jawale of T.Y.B.A. excelled in various extra-curricular activities and competitions and emerged as a winner for outstanding performances.
