Film Society
In response to an appeal of Federation of Film Societies in India, Vidya Prasarak Mandal has decided to promote the activities of the Film Society for the benefit of students and teachers / staff of its institution on 'Janadweep'.
Under the guidance of Dr. Vijay Bedekar a commitee to carry out the activities of Film Society was formed. Accordingly, Dr. Mrs. S.A. Singh, Principal of Joshi-Bedekar college was appointed as the Secretary, Prof. Anil Dhawale, HOD Hindi and Prof. Subhash G. Shinde, HOD History, Prof. Anil Bhabad were appointed as the members of the Film Society.
During the academic year 2008-09 the film of India based on Arun Sadhu's famous works Mumbai Dinank and Sinhasan and known for the excellent screenplay by Vijay Tendulkar), Gie (The well known Indonesia film)
Baran (A film by Majid Majidi), Bicycle Thieves (A film based on Italian neo-realism) were screened followed by discussion and appreciation.
As a part of the extension activities of the Film Society Principal Dr. Shakuntala Singh attended the meeting of the organizers of film societies held at National Film Archives, Pune on January 18, 2009.
Joshi-Bedekar college Film Society owes its success to Dr. Vijay Bedekar, Chairman, Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Thane for taking keen interest in the formation of the Film Society. We are thankful to Principal Dr. Shankuntala Singh for her guidance and active participation in programs of the film society. I am also thankful to all the members of the Film Society.

Film Appreciation Workshop
Joshi-Bedekar College Film Society organized One Day Workshop on 'Film Appreciation' on Saturday 29th November 2008. Asian Film Foundation sponsored the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated at the hands of Principal Dr. Shakuntala Singh. Shri. Sudhir Nandgeonkar delivered a keynote address. In his speech cum demonstration he took historical overview of Indian Cinema and film society movement in the world and India. During his speech he screened some landmark short films like 'Happy Anniversary' and the first movie of the world 'Arrival of the Train'. His keynote was ended with question answer session. Prof. Subhas Shinde compered the inaugural session and Prof. Anil Bhabad performed vote of thanks.
Ms. Nishigandha Kulkarni, Deputy editor of Maharashtra Times on-line edition, conducted second session. She spoke on the topics 'Young generation and film society movement'. She highlighted the importance of films, film society movement and role of young generation. Ms. Kulkarni explained the need of the society movement its importance in creating awareness about good films.
Post lunch session in the workshop was practical of film appreciation. In order to teach film appreciation the world famous movie 'Bicycle Thieves' was screened.
Prof. Abhijit Deshpande from Drishti Film Society of Somaiya College reviewed the film for students and discussed it by applying criteria of film appreciation.
The concluding session was the panel discussion. Shri Sudhir Nandgaonkar,
Prof. Abhijit Deshpande and Shri. Narayan Barse were on the panel to discuss the issues related to the film society movement and film appreciation. All the student participants took active part in the entire days proceedings and made the workshop an interactive one. At the end there was also demand from the students about the advanced level workshop on the same line.
