Activities:

 

2014-2015

 

With an ice breaking session through geographical games, introduction session organized for TYBA Geography students on 10th and 11th June 2014.he beginning of TYBA. This session helps to clear the basic concepts in Geography and create interest in the subject among the new batch of students.  

Guest Lecture and Workshop:

  • In association with the Counseling Cell for TYBA students a one day workshop on “Time Management and Goal Setting” was conducted on19th July 2014.
  • Asst.Prof. Shivaji Naik has conducted guest lecture of TYBA Politics students, to guide them on “Regional Profile of Maharashtra”
  • Asst. Prof. Shivaji Naik has also delivered a guidance lecture to BMM(Marathi Medium) students regarding “Map Reading Techniques”.

Field Visits, Surveys, Treks:

  • A field visit to Mumbra Devi was organized by the department on 2nd August 2014. The main aim of this visit is to teach the TYBA students the topic of Weathering, landforms etc. in physical geography.
  • On 20th July 2014, a trek was organized to Kothali Gad in collaboration with Nature Club. 
  • A survey of Manor village in Palghar District was organized on 20th September 2014, the students has prepared the report of Socio-Economic Status of the selected Padas in Manor Village.
  • Two day residential field visit to Rajmachi Fort region (Lonavala-Karjat) was organized on 31st January and 1st February 2015. During this field visit following activities are conducted.
  • Observation of Bhor Ghat
  • Geomorphological study of Ulhas Valley
  • Spatial changes in Lonavala –Khandala hill station
  • Historical study of Rajmachi Region
  • Survey on Tourist’s Behavior and Perspective
  • Trek to Kondane Caves.

Research Projects:
As a part of syllabus the students of TYBA has prepared the research project in the subject of Research Methodology. With help of primary and secondary data, students prepared the research projects on different topics. The teachers of the department helped and guided the students in the preparation of the research projects. Following is the list of project titles.

  • Birds of Mumbai Suburbs (A Case Study of Dombivali).
  • Creek Pollution in Thane City.
  • Water Sources at Forts of Maharashtra.
  • Historical Places in Thane City.
  • Traditional Rice Farming at Yeoor, Thane.

 

Other activities:

  • Screening of Documentaries: following are the documentaries screened in the TYBA geography students. These documentaries are related to the topics related to the syllabus.

“Secrets of Deserts” documentary was screened on 16th July 2014.

  • A documentary on Rel AVATAR MINE-Story on Sacred Mountain was shown on 11th December 2014.
  • Parents Meeting:

To fill up the gap of communication and to give better attention to the pupil, department every year conducts parents meeting. This year also on ________2014 the parents meeting was conducted. The dialog between the parents and teachers can improve the study environment of the students.  The problems and quires of are discussed in the meeting.

Seminars/Workshops:

The teachers in the department are actively involved the field of research also. Following is the list of the research paper presented and published in various seminars and conferences.

  • Presented paper at two days International Seminar on 24th and 25th May 2014, entitled “The Role of Government Policies in Girls Education”organized by Adult, Continuing Education and Extension of University of Pune.
  • Presented a research paper “Impact of Tourism on Shimla: A Resident’s Perspective” on 22nd December 2014, organized by M.V.P. Samaj’s Arts, Science and Commerce College, Ozar (MIG).
  • “Declining Child Sex Ratio: An Alarm” was presented at National Conference organized by Joshi-Bedekar College, Thane on 9th and 10th January 2015.
  • Presented a research paper “An Overview Study Of Child Health In India” on 25-27 February 2015, organized by International Institute for Population Studies and

Asst. Prof. Shivaji Naik

  • Presented a research paper entitled “Kharland Agriculture Development-Case Study of Aronda Village in Sindhudurg District” in a UGC Sponsored two day national seminar organized by Jaisingpur College, Kolhapur on 29th and 30th 2014.

 

  • “Biocultural Community and Role of Tribal Women in Hilly Tracks of Maharashtra” was presented at National Conference organized by Joshi-Bedekar College, Thane on 9th and 10th January 2015.
  • Presented a paper on Science and Religion in National Seminar on 20-21st March 2015 entitled Religious Traditions and Conservation Practices in Celebrating Festivals in South Konkan Region of Maharashtra
  • Asst. Prof.Shivaji Naik completed his UGC-Sponsored Orientation Programme at ASC,kumaun University, Nainital from 2nd March to 28th March 2015.

Other:
The teachers of the department are continuously involved in the improvement of the performance of the students. The extra lectures, Remedial coaching, personal guidance helps to improve the result of the department every time.
