Gymkhana & Sports Academy Report 2014-15

It gives me great pleasure to present Gymkhana and Sports Academy report for the year 2014-2015.The year has been a fruitful year in terms of achievements of our young students from Degree and Junior college in various Sports event in Individual and Team event at Interschool, Intercollegiate, Interuniversity and Open Tournaments at District, State and National Levels and International Levels.

Achievements of Degree College

ATHLETICS -:Akshaya Jadyar of S.Y.B.M.S won Gold Medal in Cross Country Race i.e. 6.5 km , in Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Championship held at D.B.J College, Chiplun. She has been awarded special trophy on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of DBJ College Chiplun held on 23rd august 2014. She participated in Maharashtra State Athletic meet held at Pune on 16th August 2014. She won Gold Medal in 1500mtrs and Silver Medal in 5000mtrs at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet. She won first prize in Inter Collegiate Greenathon i.e. 3km running organized by R.A. Podar College Matunga on 3rd August 2014. She won 2nd prize in 6km running at Thane Kranti Daud held on 10th August 2014. She won Second Prize at Bombay YMCA 6km running competition held on 21st September 2014. She represented University of Mumbai at all India Inter University Cross Country Race held at Kerala on 18th October 2014. She won 2nd prize at Thane Zilla Cross Country Ajinkyapad Spardha held at Badlapur .
BADMINTON (WOMEN) –Our College Team won Silver Medal in Team Championship in Women’s Badminton at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Tournaments .Team members were Vallari Bukane ,Ishani Navathe ,Krutika Koli ,Swarali Purohit . Our College Team was winner at Thane District Tournament held at Thane in September 2014 and Runner up at Mumbai Division Tournament, held in September 2014. Team players were Vallari Bukane , Krutika Koli , Rucha Kanolkar .
# Vallari Bukane of SYBAF represented Indian University at World University Badminton(Women) Championship held at Spain in July, 2014.She won SILVER Medal at Mumbai University Intercollegiate Badminton Women Singles Championship She represented Mumbai University at West Zone and won Silver Medal in Team Championship in West Zone Inter-University Championship held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. She represented Mumbai University at All India University Championship held at Coimbatore, Tamilnadu on 03rd January 2015. She won Gold Medal in Women doubles at Jawaharlal Darda Smruti Maharashtra State Senior Badminton Tournament held at Yavatmal. She is selected in Maharashtra team for national championship held at Vishakapattanam, Andhra Pradesh. She was runner up at Women’s nationals held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
BADMINTON (MEN) –: Our college Team won Bronze Medal in Team Championship at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Tournaments. Team members were Purshottam Awate, Shivam Pednekar , Shreyas Dhupkar, Chetan Tandel, Abhishek Goenka ,Rohan Shelke.
Purshottam Awate of TYBA has won BRONZE Medal at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Men’s Singles Championship. He was selected to represent Mumbai University at West Zone Inter University Championship. He won Gold Medal at State Championship and at Challengers Trophy in Mumbai held between 1st August and 7th August 2014. He participated in All India Senior Ranking   Badminton Tournament held at Hyderabad from 1st July from 6th July 2014.He participated in All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Pune from 12th August to16th august 2014. He was Semi finalist in Thane District Badminton Championship held from 17th August to 20th August 2014, He was Semi finalist at Inter district Badminton State Championship held at Latur from 20th August to 25th August 2014.He participated in All India Senior ranking Badminton Tournament held at Bhilwara, Rajsthan from 16th September to 25th September 2014.
BEST PHYSIQUE (MEN)-:Durgesh Vedpathak of SYBCOM secured 4th position at Mumbai University Intercollegiate Best Physique Competition in 80 kg wt group held at Malad on 6th December 2014. Nikhil Utekar of SMART course and Kapil Mandhare of SYBA secured 8th position at Mumbai University Intercollegiate Best Physique Competition in 55 kg and 65 kg wt group respectively. Nikhil Utekar of SMART course secured 1st position in 55 kg wt group at Intercollegiate Best Physique Competition, organized by Ismail Yusuf College Jogeshwari.KISHOR MHATRE of FYBA secured 2nd position in 55 kg wt group at Intercollegiate Best Physique Competition organized by Ismail Yusuf College, Jogeshwari . Sunny Deshmukh of SYBA secured 3rd position in 70 kg wt group at Intercollegiate Best Physique Competition organized by Ismail Yusuf College Jogeshwari .
BOXING-: Komal Pokharkar of F.Y.B.Com won Bronze Medal in 45-48kg wt. group at Mumbai University Intercollegiate Boxing (Women) Championship held on 24th December 2014 at L.D. Sonawane College Kalyan.
CHESS -: Our college and University of Mumbai jointly organized Intercollegiate Zone III Chess Men’s Tournament and university selection on 8th, 9th, 11th    August 2014. Total 26 colleges participated in this tournament. Saraswati Engineering College, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, Shivajirao Jondhale College of Engineering, DOMBIVLI, SMT. C.H.M. College, Ulhasnagar, S.I.E.S. GST COLLEGE, NERUL, and NAVI MUMBAI were qualified for Inter zonal Tournament.
JUDO-:Pritesh Gaonkar of S.Y.B.A.F won Gold Medal at District level Judo Competition held on 23rd October 2014. He won gold medal at 42nd Junior and Youth Thane District Judo Championship 2014-2015 held on 20th October 2014 at Thane. He won Gold Medal at 42nd Junior and Youth Maharashtra State Judo Championship and National selection trials 2014 -2015 held at Nandurbar District, Maharashtra. He won Gold Medal at 42nd Senior District Judo Championship held on 23rd November 2014 held at Thane.
He represented Maharashtra State at 42nd Junior and Youth National Judo Championship held at Shilong , Meghalaya from 07th December to 11th December 2014. He participated at 42nd Senior Maharashtra State Judo Championship held at Aurangabad from 13th December to 15th December 2014.He won Bronze medal at Mumbai university intercollegiate Judo (Men) competition held on 16th and 17th January 2015 in 90 kg wt category. He represented Mumbai University at All India Interuniversity Judo (Men) competition held at Amritsar, Punjab from 3rd to 6th February 2015
KABADDI -: Kapil Mandhare of S.Y.B.A selected to represent Mumbai University at West zone Inter University Kabaddi (Men) tournament held at Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University from 19th to 22nd January 2015 at Amravati. Mumbai University qualified from West Zone and Kapil Mandhare represented Mumbai University at All India Interuniversity Kabaddi (Men) tournament held at Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut, and Uttar Pradesh from 18th February to 28th February 2015.
KHO- KHO -:Our college and University of Mumbai jointly organized Intercollegiate Zone III (Thane) and Zone IV (Raigad)Kho –Kho men’s Tournament on 30th October 2014. Total 28 colleges participated in Zone III and 19 colleges participated in Zone IV Tournament. Our college Kho -Kho team was qualified from zone III for Mumbai university Inter Zonal Kho- Kho Tournament held at Gogate Jogalekar College Ratnagiri on 30th October 2014. Following four colleges were qualified for Interzonal Tournament from   Zone III 1) Joshi Bedekar College , Thane 2)R.F. Naik College , Koperkhairane 3)Dnyansadhna college , Thane 4)R.K. T. College , Ulhasnagar .Following two colleges qualified from Zone IV -: 1)Karjat Engineering College , Karjat2)P. P. Patil College , Alibaug .
LANGDI -: Our college and University of Mumbai jointly organized Intercollegiate Langadi(Women) Tournament for Zone III (Thane) and Zone IV (Raigad) on 10th February 2015. The college which have qualified for final round from Zone III (Thane) are from Zone IV (Raigad) were Joshi Bedekar College Thane,N.K.T.T. College Thane,C.K.T. College Panvel ,Bharat College Badlapur were qualified for Inter zonal round .
MALLKHAMB -: Our college and University of Mumbai jointly organized Intercollegiate Mallkhamb (Men and Women) Competition and university selection on 10th November October 2014. Total 16 colleges had participated in men and 10 had participated in women section. Following is the list of winners and players selected to represent Mumbai University at National Inter University Mallkhamb Competition organized at LNIPE, Gwalior, and Madhya Pradesh the result of competition is as follows

Our college student Kishor Mhatre represented University of Mumbai at All India Interuniversity Mallkhamb Competition held at LNIPE, Gwalior , Madhya Pradesh from 15th December to 19th December 2014 and Mumbai university Mallakhamb Men Team won Gold Medal in this competition .
TUG OF WAR-: Our College and University of Mumbai jointly organized Intercollegiate Tug –of- War Men and Women Tournament on 14th August 2014. Total 48 teams participated in men and 32 teams participated in women category. Following are the winners
MEN TEAM:-I) R. Ruia College, Matunga II) Mahatma Phule College Panvel III) B. N. N. College, Bhiwandi
WOMEN TEAM:- I) R. Ruia College, Matunga II) Datta Meghe College , Airoli III) C. L. Valia College, Juhu .
TAEKWONDO (Women)-: Aishwarya Shinde of TYBA won Bronze Medal in 62kgs to 67 kgs wt. welter category and Swati Sanas of FYBAF secured 7th position in Below 46kgs wt category at Mumbai university Intercollegiate Taekwondo (Women) championship held on 31st January and 01st February 2015.

JUNIOR COLLEGE ACHIVEMENTS

BADMINTON-: Our College Badminton Girls Team was winner at Thane District (TMC Area) Inter junior collegiate Badminton Tournament and Runner up at Mumbai Division held in September 2014.
BOXING-: Nisha Gaikwad of SYJC Commerce had won the Gold medal at Thane dist-TMC Area and she won Gold medal at Mumbai Divisional Boxing Competition held at Mumbai in October 2014.She won Bronze Medal at State level Boxing Championship held at Chandrapur in October 2014.
CHESS -: Siddhi Gavas of F.Y.J.C Commerce won the Gold Medal at Thane District Inter junior Collegiate Chess Tournaments. She represented Thane district at Mumbai division Competition.
CRICKET -: Our College Cricket Boys Team was winner at Thane district (TMC Area) Inter junior collegiate Cricket Tournament held at Thane in September 2014.
HANDBALL -: Our College Handball Boys Team was winner at Thane District (TMC Area) Inter junior collegiate Handball Tournament held at Thane in September, 2014.
JUDO-:Himani Gaonkar of FYJC Commerce won Gold medal at 42nd Junior and Youth Thane District Judo Championship 2014-2015 held on 20th October 2014 at Thane . She won Bronze Medal at 42nd Junior and youth Maharashtra State Judo Championship and National Selection Trials 2014 -2015 held from 30th October to 1st November, 2014 at Nandurbar District, Maharashtra .She won Gold Medal Interschool/junior collegiate District Judo Championship held on 23rd November 2014 held at Thane. She won Gold Medal at Interschool/junior collegiate Division Level Judo Championship held at Podar College, Matunga. She won Gold Medal Interschool/college State Level Judo Championship held on 23rd November 2014 held at Thane. She won Bronze medal at interschool State level Judo competition held at Parbhani from 16th to 19th December 2014.
KABADDI-: Our College Kabaddi Boys Team was winner at Thane district (TMC Area) Inter Junior Collegiate Kabaddi Tournament held at Thane in September 2014.
KARATE-: Vaibhav Thakare of SYJC Commerce won the gold medal in SQAY at Thane District level Championship in under 19 -58 kg group in Fight Group. He won Bronze Medal in SQAY at State level Championship in under 19 -58 kg group in Fight Group held at Solapur . He won the Gold Medal in SQAY at Thane dist level championship in under 19 -54 kg group in Fight Group. He won the Silver Medal in SQAY at Mumbai Division Level Championship in under 19 -54kg group in Fight Group. He won the Silver Medal in Karate at Thane dist level Championship in under 19 -55 kg group in Fight Group.He won the Bronze Medal in Karate at Mumbai Division Level Championship in under 19 -55 kg group in Fight Group. He won the Gold Medal in Tang soo do at Thane District level Championship in under 19 -58 kg group in Fight Group. He won the Gold Medal in Tang soo do at Mumbai Division Level Championship in under 19 -58 kg group in Fight Group. He is selected for State Level Tang soo do Championship in under 19 -58 kg group in Fight Group and won Gold medal.He represented Maharashtra state at National level Tang soo do Championship in under 19 -58 kg group in Fight Group held at Delhi and won bronze medal .
KHO-KHO-: Our College Kho-Kho Girls team was winners at Thane District (TMC Area) Inter Junior Collegiate Kho -Kho Tournament. Our Kho-Kho Boys team was winners at Thane District (TMC Area) Inter junior Collegiate Kho -Kho Tournament. Our College had organized DSO Thane Muncipal Corporation Inter Junior Collegiate Kho-Kho Boys and Girls Competition.
SWIMMING-:Suchetan Supale of FYJC Commerce won Gold Medal in 1500mtr free style and silver medal in 400mtr free style at Mumbai Division and represented Mumbai division at State Level Swimming Competition in 1500mts and secured 4th position. He won bronze medal in 200mtr back stroke he won gold medal in 50mtr at Mumbai district. He secured Second place in 2KM swimming at 5th State Level Open Sea Swimming Competition 2014 at Chivala beach, Malvan , organized by Sindhudurg district Aquatic Association on 21st December 2014.He won silver medal and Rs. 10,000/- Cash award in 6 Km Sea Swimming competition in Differently able Category held on the occasion of Indian Navy Day on 26th November 2014. He won third place in 5000 mtr open group at Starfish long distance Aquatic fest 2015 held at thane on 25th January 2015.
VOLLEYBALL -: Our College Volleyball Girls Team was Runner up at Thane District (TMC Area) Inter Junior Collegiate Volleyball Tournament held at Thane in September 2014.
TENNIS VOLLEYBALL –: Manthan Raut of SYJC Commerce secured 2nd place at Senior State Tournament held at Yavatmal from 21st to 23rd February 2014. He secured 2nd place in Senior National Tournament held at Bengluru from 4th to 6th April 2014.He secured 1st place at Junior State Tournament held at Jalgaon from 22nd to 24th September 2014 in Mix Double Event.

ANNUAL SPORTS -:
The college Annual Athletic meet was held on 20th December 2014. Following students were the winners of college Athletic Individual Championship.

SPORTS ACADEMY
This year Sports Academy was inaugurated by Dr. U.N. Kendre , Director, Dept. of Physical Education and Sports , University of Mumbai on 8th August 2014.
We have started boxing training for Boys and Girls of Junior and Degree college students from 1st August 2014 under the guidance of Boxing Coach Mr. Meelan Vaidya.
We have organized Self-Defence Training Programme in association with Women Development Cell from 26th August 2014 for Degree college Girl students. During first semester we have completed training sessions for three batches.
Gymkhana and Sports Academy hosted Indoor and Outdoor games for Japanese students from Kyoto-Sangyo University of Japan under Cultural Exchange Programme on 10th and 11th September 2014.
Our college had organized 3rd Intercollegiate Sports Festival on 2nd and 3rd December 2014. Total 62 colleges had participated this year and the competitions were conducted in 32 sports events in 14 sport games. Four new games were introduced this year in this festival i.e. Chess, Carom, Tug -of -War, Best Physique. The Rolling Trophy of Intercollegiate Sport Festival won by our college by Winning Medals and Trophies in 19 events.
Our college had organized Intra collegiate Football, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Tug –of- War and Langadi Competition for Degree and Junior college Boys and Girls students on 10th and 11th December 2014.
We have organized Indoor and Outdoor games for Junior and Degree College students’ from 4thDecember to 17th December 2014. We have organized Indoor and Outdoor games for Teaching and Non Teaching staff of college during this tenure.
First time we had organized Inter Class Kabaddi ,Kho Kho ,Football,Langdi and Tug of War Tournaments for Junior and Degree College Girls and Boys Students on 10th ,11th and 12th December 2014.
We have organized Best Physique competition for Junior and Degree college boys on 18th December 2014 at Gymkhana
