LIBRARY REPORT

2013-2014

The academic year 2013-14  started with new aspiration to make the Joshi-Bedekar College Library as one of the better than the  best within the colleges affiliated to University of Mumbai. In view of the new self-financed courses added to the college, library was facing problem of space and staking the new books. To tackle the problem library has made some changes in staking area to accommodate more number of books by adding 20 new book racks.

  • Following are the highlights of the library during this academic year
  • Number of books added during the year is 2785 to make the total 79664
  • Total number of books in Junior College Section is 8258
  • Total number of books in Book Bank Section is  8416
  • Book bank facility is availed by 229 students and 805 books have been issued
  • Library is subscribing to 142 journals and receives 12 complementary periodicals
  • Separate Vijay Bedekar Collection  is created in the library  from the donation of 2617 books donated him.
  • Special book exhibition was organized on the occasion of the International Conference  on  ‘ Money, Finance and Economic Growth’ on 10th and 11Th January. Library staff under the guidance of  Asst. Librarian Mrs. Manisha Patil took special efforts in the books exhibition.
  • B. N. Bandodkar College of Science students visited the library under the course of ‘ Personality Development’ on 25th October 2013
  • Following Orientation Programs were organized by library staff for the new students of the college
    • 8th July 2013 for Junior College students
    • 14th July 2013for BLISc students
    • 1st  August 2013 FYBA
    • 2nd August 2013 FY Bcom
    • 20th  2013September for TYBA History Students
    • 14th  2013 December for TYBA English Literature students

I express my gratitude towards Dr. Vijay Bedekar, Chairman, Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Thane and Dr.Shakuntala Singh, Principal for extending their full support and guidance for the activities of the library. I am also grateful to both the Principals. I offer my sincere thanks to all the members of the library committee for their cooperation.  I take this opportunity to thank my library staff and office staff for their cooperation and help in the smooth functioning of the library during the academic year.
