Education is an important instrument for social and economic change in a nation. Opportunity for everyone in the society should be made available. It helps in achieving our goals of social and economic justice, which results in ensuring better future to those who wish to embrace it. It has a power to eradicate harmful and obsolete attitudes, and thus assists in national integration and build a strong, self-sufficient and self-reliant nation. Education hitherto was for a few fortunate, and millions are far away even from primary stage.

Here, Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Thane, (VPM ) comes in the picture. VPM is established in 1935 and is registered under the Public Trust Act. VPM took up this national and humanitarian cause of meeting the urge of young and old unprivileged to have access to primary and higher education. VPM as on today is a pioneer educational institute in Thane, enthusiastically and zealously catering to the basic needs of education of nearly 14000 students every day through its Marathi and English medium schools located in Naupada, Thane and Arts, Commerce, Science and Law, Degree Colleges, Polytechnic and also through various Post Graduate Courses conducted by the Institute of Management 'Studies and Advanced Study Centre located at College Campus, Chendani Bunder Road, Thane. VPM has celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Year during 1994-95 and Silver Jubilee Year of Arts, Commerce and Science College during 1993-94 in a very apt and modest manner.

The college campus is situated on a 13.5 acres of land of beautiful creek land gifted by the Govt. of Maharashtra in 1968 (10 acres) and in 1978 (3.5 acres). An amount over Rs. 5 crores has been spent on development and construction of the college buildings and installation of telephones and internet circuits during the last 32 years.

VPM has gone through many vicissitudes while undertaking multifarious educational ventures during this span of time, and has come out very successfully not only in academic side but in other cultural activities also.  VPM Surely owes its prosperity to the generous help of donors and well wishers for which VPM is always grateful to them.

VPM does not want to stop here.  It envisages construction of more buildings to house Engineering Degree College, Central  for Colleges, Management Institute, Staff and Principals’ quarters, Students’ Hostel, Sports Pavilion etc.  for which a Master Plan is getting ready.  VPM therefore, desires to draw attention of the general public as well as private and public organizations to the need of lending a supporting hand to the Mandal’s  educational activities in Thane so that Colossal project envisaged does not remain a distant dream but is completed as expeditiously as the  requirements demand.

VPM is always keen to join industry/ies  and identify new courses (other than conventional ones) for the welfare of students with a view to get them better opening and placement, and for this purpose VPM and its units frequently hold conferences, seminars and workshops with the help of industry/ies.

Anticipating the needs of the student community for tomorrow, VPM has decided to launch a fresh course in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).  This course will also benefit the working class in law Department, Management Professionals, Industries, Banks, Corporate Bodies etc.
