o Scope, importance and branches of horticulture. Job potentials and Entrepreneurship in horticulture
o Five Star Vegetables
o Concept of organic farming: Vermi composting
o Agro tourism
o Bonsai
o Export potentials for horticulture produces
o Govt. schemes
o Preparation of Project report to start a new enterprise

PAPER - II : FLORICULTURE, AROMATIC & MEDICINAL PLANTS, HERBAL COSMETICS:
o Floriculture
o Tissue culture technique and micro-propogation in floriculture
o Polyhouse technology
o Aromatic Plants, Medicinal Plants, Plants having cosmetic value
o Insecticides and growth promoters of herbal origin

PAPER - III : NURSERY DEVELOPMENT, LANDSCAPING AND GARDENING:
o Nursery Development
o Landscaping
o Gardening: Kitchen garden, Terrace garden, Water garden and Rock garden

PRACTICAL - I
1) Study of garden tools and implements
2) Plants suitable for hanging baskets and their fillings
3) Propogation methods of plants by stem cutting
4) Rose Grafting
5) Preparation of seed bed and growth of seedlings
6) Preparation of rows and furrows and sowing of Okara
7) Types of soil, their pH and amendment methods
8) Moisture content and water holding capacity of soil
9) Classification of fertilizers, Liquid fertilizers
10) Classification of pest and common diseases to hortucultural plants
11) Classification of insecticides and their mode of preparation
12) Techniques of prunning
13) Lay out of nursery and suitable plants in it
14) Identification of vegetables and their post harvest technological products

1) Identification of floriculture crops
2) Preparation of potting material and growth of Anthurium and Gerbera
3) Preparation of tissue culture media
4) Identification of medicinal and aromatic plants and their products
5) Extraction of essential oil by steam distillation
6) Terrarium (Bottle garden)
7) Making of Bonsai
8) Vegetable carving
9) Flower arrangement and Ikebana
10) Vermi composting
11) Identification of lawns and commercial method of their propogation
12) Landscape designs (Housing, Commercial complex, Bungalow & Public area)

  • Visits to Gardens, Nurseries, Agriculture Colleges/Universities, Exhibitions etc.
  • Out doors practicals are conducted in well-developed garden on the College Campus.
