- B.N. Bandodkar College of Science, Thane has
received a special grant of Rs.10,00,000/- for ppgrading of Laboratories
from UGC under the scheme of Promotion of Basic Scientific Research,
being NAAC accredited Science College.
- National Assessment and Accreditation Council
(NAAC) peer team visited to our college for Re-Accreditation
from 21st to 23rd Jan 2010 and awarded
"A" Grade to the College.
- Dr. (Mrs.) A. S. Goswami - Giri, from Chemistry
Department got a Minor Project sanctioned by University of Mumbai
of Rs. 30,000/- for one year. Title of the project is "Mechanism
action of Lantana against wood destroying agency".
- Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) M. K. Pejaver from Zoology
Department got a Minor Project sanctioned by University of Mumbai
of Rs. 16,000/- for one year. Title of the project is Biocompost
- "a Niche for insect diversity".
- Dr. M. V. Rathnam from Chemistry Department got
a Major Project sanctioned by UGC, New Delhi, of Rs. 5,88,000/-
for three years. Title of the project is "Study of organic
liquid mixture of ester in cyclic ethers".
- Dr. (Mrs.) M. S. Mulgaonkar from Botany Department
got a Major Project sanctioned by UGC, New Delhi of Rs. 4,81,300/-
for three years. Title of the project is "Survellance of
habit distribution of medicinally important Orchids from Maharashtra
(Western Ghats) with mention to their substance, composition and
conservation of some rare and endangered Orchids in orchidarium".
- Prize distribution and publication of
annual magazine 'Sanyuja' ceremony was held on 18th Jan
2010. Dr. B.B. Sharma, Principal, KET'S Vaze - Kelkar College,
Mulund, graced the occasion as chief guest.
- Solar Eclipse Physics
Club "Avishkar" arranged a telescope on 15th January
2010 on the college terrace to view the Solar Eclipse. Many students
and staff members could see the Avishkar of nature. Dr. Nyayate,
Mr. Bapat and Mr. Chaudhari from Physics department helped the
students and staff for the same.
- CD Exhibition was organised
on 13th January 2010 by Friends of Linbrary Club. About 69 CDs
- educational and for general reference were kept for display.
About 100 students and staff members visited the exhibition.
- Microbiology lab and Chemistry Research lab
was inaugurated on 12th Jan 2010. The Chief Guest for this function
was Dr. Rita Mulherkar, Tata Memorial Centre, Kharghar and Mr
Ulhas Nimkar, M.D.& C.E.O, Texan Lab.
- Congratulations! Kedar Bhat our Past student
has won second place in the Landscapes and Plants category, Pro
division of 2009 National Wildlife Photo Contest. This year's
contest winners were drawn from nearly 70,000 entries (the largest
pool in contest
history) and three rounds of judging.
- Alumni - meet of 1984 batch students was arranged
on 25th December 2009 in Pantanjali Sabhagruha to celebrate Silver
- Jublee of graduation year. Mr. Girish Tilve, Mr. Nitin Shinde,
Mr. Sunder organized this meet. Fourty five students actively
participated in this meet. Mr Mayuresh Dhond and Ms. Alpana (from
USA) were online on video for the interaction throughout the programme.
From this group of students a donation of Rs. 40,000/- was given
to VPM for giving Endownment Prizes to the toppers at T.Y.B.Sc.
class in the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics,
Botany and Zoology.
- Annual social gathering for the year 2009-10
"Akanksha" was held from 22nd Dec to 24th Dec
2009. The Theme for this year was Global Warming.
- Annual sports meet was organized on 21st December
2009.
- Women development cell had organized lecture
on 19th December 2009 at 11.00 a.m. in Patanjali Sabhagruha by
Ms. Mangala Padhye activist of Stree Mukti Sanghatana on the topic
"Rights of Women".
- Dr. M. N. Nyayate is appointed as Head of the
Physics department from 1st Dec 2009.
- Head of the Physics department Mr. V.D. Golatkar
retired on 30th Nov. 2009. Send off function was arranged by Staff
academy.
- One Day State Level Seminar on Reengineering
of Libraries was organized on 27th November 2009.
- A "Career Melava" was organized
for the students of junior college on 20th and 21st Nov 2009.
- One day workshop on the topic Intercultural
Education for college teachers was arranged on 17th Nov. 2009.
Prof H.C. Pradhan Director Homi Bhabha centre for Science was
the chief guest at inaugural function. Dr V.V. Bedekar- Chairman
VPM , Dr S.C. Agarkar- Homi-Bhabha centre of Science education,
Mr. Aniruddh Joshi-Member of VPM and Mr. R.D Kavathekar - Lecturer,
Pendharkar College Dombivali were the resource persons. All teachers
actively participated in the seminar.
- A lecture by Dr Anil Gore was organized on 14th
Nov 2009.His talk was on "Evolution for Biologists and
Statisticians"
- A workshop for the office staff was arranged
on 29th Oct 2009. regarding college website and computerization
of the office.
- Excursion for F Y B Sc students of zoology was
arranged on 27th Oct 2009 to Prince of Wales museum Mumbai.
- The inaugural lecture of Zoology club- Green
force Nature club was organized on 10th Oct 2009. NYASS TRUST
is an organization working in the field of environment awareness.
Miss Gayatri Oak, our T.Y. B.Sc. student who is a member of this
NGO, delivered the presentation about the 'Tiger Projects in India
, past & present'. NYASS TRUST is conducting a signature Campaign
which was held in college to save Tigers of Tadoba.
- The Inaugural function of chemistry club "Urja"
was organized on 1st Oct 2009 at the hands of Dr. Ravi Deshmukh,
Principal, Karjat College.
- A Lecture by Ms. Dhanashree Lele on personality
development 'Sundar Mi Honar' was arranged on 29th Sept.
2009 in Patanjali Sabhagruha by IT club.
- Light Vocal Music competition was organized by
cultural association on 17th Sept 2009 at Patanjali Sabhagruha.
Ms. Kirti Agashe and Ms. Indumati Pethe worked as the judges.
- Staff members and students of VPM Polytechnic
visited our biotechnology laboratory on 14th &15th Sept 2009.
- Our N.S.S. unit conducted "Blood donation
camp" in association with J.J. Hospital Mumbai on 15th Sept.
2009.
- In collaboration with Encore Waste Management
We have started "First Step towards Zero Garbage Institute"
programme from Sept. 2009.
- Our college Auditorium "Patanjali Sabhagruha"
was inaugurated on 18th Aug. 2009. Dr V. V. Bedekar, Chairman
VPM was the chief guest.
- Inauguration function of the cultural association
for the year 2009-10 was arranged on 30th July in 'Thorale Bajirao
Sabhagruha'. Prof Ashok Bagave -famous poet was chief guest. On
this occasion he presented a programme 'Shravan sari'.
- Ms. Vinamrata Gandhi S.Y.J.C. student received
NTS scholarship for the year 2009-10.
- Inaugural lecture for F.Y.J.C. students was arranged
on 30th July 2009.
- Inaugural lecture for F.Y.B.Sc.(unaided). students
was arranged on 14th July 2009.
- Inaugural lecture for F.Y.B.Sc. (aided) students
was arranged on 30th June 2009.
- Mr S M Mali, Lab assistant from physics department
passed away on 13th June 2009 The condolence meeting was arranged
on 15th June 2009.
- Inaugural lecture for S.Y.J.C. students was arranged
on 15th June 2009.
- Inaugural lectures for S.Y.B.Sc. and T.Y.B.Sc
students were arranged on 8th June 2009.
