The Year of Scientific Awareness 2004 -“ Science Square” Ramon-
Magsaysay Award winner Dr. Sandeep Pandey was invited for a guest
lecture under the banner of Science square: 2004 A year of Scientific
awareness on 1st July 2004. Dr.
Pandey received the award in 2002 in the Emergent Leadership Category,
for his selfless work in founding and running an ashram Aasha the hope.
The institute is to educate and provide livelihood for poor children and
underprivileged people. Magsaysay
award is the Asian equivalent of Nobel Prize given to individuals or
organisations that have rendered selfless service to the society. Dr.
Pandey was a student of Banaras Hindu University. He later went to USA
to Berkley University, another prestigious university of America.There
he beacame an Engineer. At Berkeley he helped in founding the ashram
Aasha. He has donated about a million dollars for the same cause. He
believes in two principals of Education One is Self Reliance i.e.
Swawalamban and the other is Human Values i.e. Samajikta. He is a
follower of Mahatma Gandhi and believes that when the path is chalked
out the means will follow. At present he is helping the in working of
the Aasha Ashram at Ballia and Lalpur district.
He appealed our students to work towards Vishwa Shanti. To make use of science for the betterment of mankind and not its downfall. |
