Maharashtra Battalion NCC is currently conducting its annual training
camp (ATC) at B. N. Bandodkar College in Thane. NCC cadets from various
schools & colleges in & around Mumbai are participating. Vidya
Prasarak Mandal, Thane has always maintained cordial relations with the
armed forces & has offered its college campus for this camp. The
entire college campus now looks like an army camp.
The Principal Dr. (Mrs.) M. K. Pejaver has handed over most of
the rooms for accommodation the cadets.
Others have been converted to various utility rooms according to
camp requirements. The
300 campers begin their day at 5.00 in the morning.
A typical training schedule includes PT at 6.00 followed by
drill, lecture & practical session on weapon training, map reading,
obstacle crossing along with other NCC & defence related subjects. Information
lectures by eminent personalities from different walks of life are
arranged in the evenings. They cover popular topics such as human rights, journalism,
how to become good citizens, juvenile crimes, AIDS Awareness, Nature
around us, Pollution Control etc. The
cadets also get a chance to handle service weapons like 7.62 mm SLR
& light machine gun at the Pokhran firing range.
The cadets will be doing social service I n areas around Thane. Senior Under Officers M. F. S. Surve & S. Joshi say that
this is the best camp they have attended in their NCC career.
The Thane Fire Brigade has arranged a live demonstration of fire
fighting & rescue procedures for the school cadets on 2nd
June 04. The cadets
themselves arte also planning a live demonstration on 3rd
June to showcase what they have learnt in the camp. Grp. Capt. A. G. Patil, Group Commander, Mumbai ‘B’ Group NCC visited the camp on 27th May 04 for motivation the cadets. The Group Commander as well as Camp Commandant Lt. Col. R. Chatterjee, and Dy. Commandant Maj. Amit Atre have expressed gratitude towards Dr. V. V. Bedekar, Chairman VPM, Thane for developing & maintaining such a beautiful campus with best camping infrastructure & offering it to the NCC organization for training of their cadets. |
