SEQUENCES DEPOSITED
The European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) is an International ‘nucleotide sequence repository’ providing free and unrestricted access to annotated DNA and RNA sequences . It also stores complementary information such as experimental procedures, details of sequence assembly and other details related to the sequencing project . It is produced and maintained by the European Bioinformatics Institute and is a member of the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (INSDC) along with the DNA Data Bank of Japan and GenBank . After submission of the data by genome sequencing centers, individual scientists or patent offices, the data is carefully curated and accession numbers (unique identifiers which permanently identify sequences in the database) are assigned to the deposited sequences. Accession numbers are communicated to authors and are required by many research journals before manuscripts are accepted.
